Honda’s debut BEV is to be called the Honda e
Honda’s first fully electric production model for the European market will be called “Honda e”. This has now been officially confirmed by the manufacturer. At the Geneva Motor Show in March, the Japanese company presented a series-near version of the electric car as “e Prototype” (previously Urban EV).
According to the manufacturer, it has so far received over 22,000 requests of interest regarding the Honda e from all over Europe. The car manufacturer intends to accept reservations in selected European markets starting in early summer.
The retro-look BEV will be the first model to benefit from a new Japanese electric car platform. Further compact electric models based on the platform are to follow, such as the series version of the Honda Sports EV Concept electric sports car presented at the end of 2017.
The Group also announced that the next generation Jazz will be available with the i-MMD hybrid system, among others. The new edition of the small car will celebrate its international premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show. The i-MMD hybrid system is already installed in the new CR-V hybrid and is expected to play a major role in the Japanese electrification strategy.
Speaking of which: Honda recently also announced in Geneva that it would be tightening its electrification strategy for Europe. By 2025, the manufacturer now intends to equip 100 per cent of its new vehicles sold in Europe with electrified drive systems. The strategy expands Honda’s “Electric Vision” announced in 2017, which initially referred to an e-sales ratio of two thirds.
