BYD lanza el Seal 06 GT en el mercado chino
BYD gave an initial preview of the hatchback model in April with the Ocean M concept vehicle – albeit without providing any technical details. The Chinese car manufacturer has now officially unveiled the production version and has also put a price tag on it. The Seal 06 GT starts at 136,800 yuan (equivalent to 17,730 euros) in China and is available in the most expensive version from 186,800 yuan (around 24,200 euros). This puts the price range below the 150,000 to 200,000 yuan that was announced at the pre-sale debut at the end of August.
BYD’s target group for the compact GT hatchback is said to be primarily young buyers. This is why the latest model in BYD’s Ocean series has a decidedly dynamic look. However, the Seal 06 GT is no longer quite as sporty as the concept car. The concept’s pronounced rear spoiler, for example, is only slightly hinted at in the production model.
Technically, the Seal 06 GT is based on BYD’s further developed 3.0 Evo platform. It measures 4,630 x 1,880 x 1,490 mm with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm and comes in four versions – including three rear-wheel drive models and an all-wheel drive model. In the single-motor version, the compact car has either a rear-mounted electric drive with 160 kW and 310 Nm at its peak or a slightly more powerful unit with 165 kW and 330 Nm. The GT is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 7.5 seconds.
The top version of the Seal 06 GT has an all-wheel drive with a maximum of 310 kW and 510 Nm of torque for acceleration to 100 kph in 4.9 seconds. BYD relies on various blade batteries for the on-board energy storage system. The two cheaper versions have 59.5 kWh batteries with LFP chemistry for a CLTC range of 505 kilometres, while the two higher-priced alternatives have a 73 kWh battery for a CLTC range of 605 km (rear-wheel drive) and 550 km (all-wheel drive). At the presentation of the study, it was also stated that the Seal 06 GT supports a new generation of cell-to-body batteries – in other words, a further development of the current blade batteries. BYD has already dispensed with a separate floor panel for the Seal electric sedan; the cover of the battery housing also forms the floor of the interior.
