ADL to deliver another 32 electric buses to London

Public transport operator Go-Ahead London has ordered 32 electric buses from bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis (ADL) for use in the British capital. The order is for the smallest electric model in ADL's portfolio, the Enviro100EV.

ADL says the electric buses will be delivered in early 2025. The Enviro100EV measures 8.5 m in length and 2.35 m in width and offers space for up to 41 passengers. The model will be used in London on Transport for London (TfL) routes that “navigate narrow streets and housing estates.”

The Enviro100EV electric buses have batteries with an energy content of 354 kWh, supplied by Impact Clean Power Technology. It allows the electric bus to go up to 450 kilometres on a single charge. The batteries provide “up to 1.2GWh warrantable energy throughput to allow for long operating lives without battery replacement.”

All buses contain the medium-duty version of the electric drive system from supplier Voith. The German company recently reached a milestone by delivering 1,000 drives for electric buses manufactured in the UK. In addition to ADL, these also went to Wrightbus from Northern Ireland.

“Our Enviro100EV is a great fit for the smallest size of single deck bus operated on behalf of Transport for London, offering a great passenger experience and features of Transport for London’s Bus Safety Standard and combining this with a driveline and batteries designed for longevity., “said Neil Gladstone, National Account Manager for Alexander Dennis. “We’re delighted that Go-Ahead London has chosen the Enviro100EV for its small bus requirements and look forward to delivering these vehicles in early 2025.”

“These vehicles showcase high-quality public transport, and we look forward to deploying the Enviro100EV fleet on a series of busy outer London services in 2025,” added Chris McKeown, Go-Ahead London’s Engineering Director. “As the capital’s most experienced, largest and innovative zero-emission bus company, I have every confidence they will be well received by colleagues and passengers alike.”

Transport for London (TfL) already operates “almost 1,700 zero-emission buses.” The goal is for the bus fleet to be completely emission-free by 2030. Several different bus companies work for TfL. Go-Ahead is one of them. Last year, the public transport operator ordered 141 electric buses from then-partners BYD and ADL for use in London. This summer, bus operator Stagecoach also ordered 244 electric buses from ADL for use in London.
