Back then, Kern was behind the wheel of the current Taycan Turbo S with Performance Package. Porsche says that with the new pre-series car, he was already around 25 kph faster heading into the Schwedenkreuz than with the Taycan Turbo S.

In terms of distance, the new pre-series model crossed the finish line of the Nordschleife with a lead of 1.3 kilometres over the current Taycan. The total distance covered was 20.8 kilometres.

Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational, putting the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars,” says head of the model line, Kevin Giek. “And the impressive thing about it is that over several laps, Lars clocked almost exactly the same time.”

The new Porsche Taycan also beat the previous record time of the Tesla Model S Plaid by around 18 seconds but was not quite as fast as the Rimac Nevera with a lap time of 7:05:298 minutes.

The car manufacturer from Zuffenhausen is planning a second generation of the electric Taycan for 2027. According to a report by Autocar en 2022, this will be based on a sporty version of the Volkswagen Group’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP).
