El próximo Enyaq será el primer Skoda basado en SSP
Zellmer literally told the portal Autocar that “then (2028 or 2029, editor’s note) the Enyaq – which, by the way, will be built in Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic – will be based on the SSP”. At the VW brand, the next-generation Golf is to be the first model to use the new SSP architecture around the same time.
The premiere of the SSP was originally planned for 2026, but is likely to be delayed due to problems with software development. If the current and latest statements are correct, the year 2028 will now probably be targeted – in the meantime, rumours circulated according to which the SSP could be delayed until 2030.
Zellmer also confirmed to Autocar that the launch of the Elroq electric compact SUV is planned for the first half of 2024. The model is a sister model to the VW ID.2 X, which will be positioned below the well-known Enyaq. Instead of being on par with the 4.65-metre Enyaq, the model is likely to be in the 4.40 to 4.50-metre range, like the Karoq. As the Elroq is due to debut next year, it will likely still be based on the familiar MEB platform – the revised MEB+ variant will get VW’s unit cell in the battery, according to earlier reports, and this is unlikely to be available before 2025.
In 2025, Skoda is also reportedly planning revised variants of the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé, before an electric sedan and a seven-seat electric SUV follow in 2026.
