Public transport operator RET Rotterdam has placed another order with VDL for 35 to 50 electric buses. The vehicles from the current order are to be delivered by the end of 2021.

The vehicles from the follow-up order are again the VDL Citea SLF-120 Electric. The new vehicles will have the new battery pack announced in February called “VDL High Energy”. These give the Citea SLF Electric 350 kWh of energy storage capacity.

In May 2020, VDL announced a contract with CATL, who will supply VDL with a “high energy density battery system based on its standardised product LFP-CTP (Cell to Pack) platform”. At the time CATL had said that the first e-buses with this system would be deployed in the Netherlands.

Al igual que con el first electric bus order to VDL, the Dutch manufacturer will not only supply the vehicles but also the charging infrastructure. The telematics for the RET fleet will be provided by ViriCiti.

En 2018, RET had already ordered 55 Citea SLF Electric, which were delivered by the end of 2019. This was later followed by an order for 103 hybrid buses from VDL. According to its own statements, RET wants to have a locally emission-free bus fleet in 2030.
