The Mobility House, EcoG and EV-Tech unveil BiDi Wallbox

In order to adapt bidirectional charging for a mass market, German companies The Mobility House and EcoG have joined forces with Chinese manufacturer EV-Tech. Together, the partners have developed a DC wallbox that supports Vehicle-to-Grid and Vehicle-to-Home.

The three partners have jointly brought the ‘ultra-compact and highly efficient’ DC wallbox, named ChargeLine BiDi, to series production and certification. The DC charging station operates at 800 volts and delivers a power output of 11 kW. This figure may sound familiar to many EV drivers, as many AC wallboxes also operate at 11 kW.

According to the companies involved, the ChargeLine BiDi is not a proprietary system. Instead, it supports the latest standards, including ISO 15118-20 and OCPP 2.1, as well as earlier versions such as ISO 15118-2, OCPP 2.01, and OCPP 1.6. This ensures full interoperability with vehicles and backends already available on the market. In other words, any EV that supports ISO 15118-20 can connect to the bidirectional wallbox. “This lays the foundation for using millions of vehicle batteries as decentralised energy storage systems, balancing peak loads in the grid, and enabling EV drivers to benefit significantly from active participation in the energy market,” The Mobility House states.

Similarly, any energy provider can connect their OCPP 2.1 backend for charging control to the ChargeLine BiDi. This allows both automotive manufacturers and energy providers to seamlessly integrate the bidirectional wallbox into their existing offerings, according to the partners.

“With the ChargeLine BiDi, we are adding another building block to our ecosystem: what we have built over the years in the energy markets with FlexibilityAggregator and FlexibilityTrader, we are now bringing directly to the end customer’s wall and unlocking the home as a new source of value for the first time. From the energy market to the garage: everything from a single source,” says Thomas Raffeiner, CEO & Founder of The Mobility House.

Jörg Heuer, CEO & Co-Founder of EcoG, adds: “This is a showcase of German innovation—the perfect interplay of German software expertise from EcoG and system competence from The Mobility House to set the standard in bidirectional charging technology together with the German automotive industry. With EcoG OS, we provide the digital backbone for a wallbox that is not only extremely compact and cost-effective but also remains up-to-date for years through our software updates.”

The new bidirectional wallbox will be exhibited from 23 to 26 June 2026 at Power2Drive in Munich at the booths of EcoG (B6.130), including a live demo with a VW ID.3, as well as at The Mobility House (B6.510).

In April, The Mobility House attracted attention by announcing an offering that allows owners of V2G-capable electric vehicles to charge for free at their home wallbox. The Mobility House plans to offset this by using the EV batteries as intermediate storage and feeding electricity back into the grid when needed—at a profit. Such an offering – combined with a dedicated V2G electricity tariff from The Mobility House Energy for private customers – is set to launch in Germany later this year for the all-electric Renault 5, as well as for the new Mercedes-Benz electric GLC.
