Mercedes opens order books for two additional battery-electric GLC variants
Since order books opened last October, only one model based on the new MB.EA-M platform has been available in Germany: the GLC 400 4MATIC. This variant delivers a system output of 360 kW, features all-wheel drive, and houses a battery with 94 kWh of usable energy capacity. Additionally, it promises a WLTP range of up to 673 kilometres. Mercedes-Benz lists the starting price at €71,281.
For the GLC 400 4MATIC, Mercedes-Benz also continues to offer a ‘Long Range Edition’. This package costs an additional €2,844 and is claimed to increase WLTP range to over 700 kilometres. It includes, among other features, the ‘Agility & Comfort Package’, special 19-inch alloy wheels with low-rolling-resistance tyres, and aluminium-effect running boards with rubber studs.
As early as last week, media reports suggested that Mercedes-Benz would release two additional variants of the battery-electric SUV on 9 June. This has now happened: the configurator is now open for the GLC 250 and the GLC 300 4MATIC. Deliveries are expected to begin towards the end of the year.
The new GLC 250 is equipped with a 260 kW rear-wheel-drive powertrain. The battery-electric SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h, matching all other variants. The GLC 300 4MATIC, meanwhile, features all-wheel drive like the current top model but delivers 310 kW, positioning it below the GLC 400 4MATIC. Mercedes-Benz states the standard sprint time as 4.7 seconds.
Both new variants use a smaller battery compared to the GLC 400 4MATIC. Instead of 94 kWh, the GLC 250 and GLC 300 4MATIC each offer 85 kWh of usable energy capacity. The battery is already familiar thanks to its presence in other new Mercedes battery-electric models with 800-volt architectures. Meanwhile, maximum DC charging power is 320 kW, with charging from 10 to 80 per cent expected to take 22 minutes. To charge at pure 400-volt charging stations – which are rare in this country – a ‘DC charging system’ must be ordered for around €655. As standard, the maximum AC charging power is 11 kW. Mercedes-Benz also offers an optional 22 kW onboard charger for the same price of €655.
As expected, the new rear-wheel-drive variant leads in terms of range: Mercedes-Benz states up to 647 kilometres (WLTP) for the GLC 250. The GLC 300 4MATIC, with all-wheel drive, achieves up to 613 kilometres. This positions the new variants below the existing GLC 400 4MATIC in both price and technical specifications.

Even in their base configurations, the new GLC variants are well-equipped. Standard features include a panoramic sunroof, acoustic glass for thermal and noise insulation, LED headlights, a rear-view camera, a 10.3-inch driver display, a 14-inch media display, automatic climate control, and heated front seats, along with several driver assistance systems.
However, the MBUX Superscreen with an additional 14-inch front-passenger display cannot be ordered separately. It is part of the ‘Advanced Plus Package with Digital Extras’, priced at €3,570. For those seeking additional features such as a Burmester 3D surround sound system or adaptive high-beam assist Plus, the ‘Premium Package with Digital Extras’ is available for €7,497. The MBUX Hyperscreen is only included in the ‘Premium Plus Package with Digital Extras’, priced at €11,305.
Without these optional packages, the starting prices remain as stated: the battery-electric Mercedes-Benz GLC 250 starts at €64,736, while the GLC 300 4MATIC begins at €68,306.
In addition to these two new variants, two further versions are expected to launch towards the end of this year. One of these is reportedly the GLC 300+, which will feature the larger 94 kWh battery from the GLC 400 4MATIC. Below this, another entry-level variant is anticipated, with a rear-wheel-drive powertrain delivering 230 kW. According to current reports, this model will be equipped with a battery offering 64 kWh of usable energy capacity.
