Kia EV4 upgraded to highest UK Electric Car Grant band

Kia has secured the highest level of support under the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG) for selected variants of the EV4 following a reassessment of the vehicle’s environmental credentials. The battery-electric model had previously qualified only for the lower Band 2 support level.

Following the reassessment, the EV4 ‘Air’ Standard Range and Long Range, as well as the newly introduced EV4 ‘Motion’, now qualify for the £3,750 Band 1 grant. The vehicles previously qualified for Band 2 support, as announced in December 2025. According to Kia, the revised classification was approved after the company submitted additional environmental sustainability evidence and the UK Government reassessed the European-produced battery used in the EV4.

The change reduces the starting price of the EV4 range to £30,995 on-the-road for the ‘Air’ Standard Range equipped with a 58.3 kWh battery. The Long Range version with an 81.4 kWh battery starts at £33,245 including the grant.

“Kia is proud to announce the EV4 as its first model that qualifies for the maximum Band 1 Electric Car Grant,” the company stated. The carmaker added that the grant ‘reduces the vehicle’s on-the-road price by £3,750.’

Kia simultaneously introduced a new EV4 ‘Motion’ trim level, positioned between the ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’. The variant also qualifies for the Band 1 grant and is priced from £36,745 on-the-road including the incentive.

The EV4 ‘Motion’ is powered by a 201 bhp front-mounted electric motor paired with an 81.4 kWh battery. The new trim level is available exclusively as a five-door hatchback and will not be offered for the EV4 Fastback. Production takes place at Kia’s Žilina plant in Slovakia.

While the EV4 ‘Air’ and ‘Motion’ variants now receive the maximum grant, the higher-specification ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ versions remain outside the Band 1 category. However, Kia said those variants continue to benefit from existing finance offers including 3.9 per cent APR financing and a £3,000 finance deposit contribution.

Alongside the EV4 update, Kia also confirmed that additional EV3 variants now qualify for the £1,500 Band 2 grant. The EV3 ‘Air’ and ‘GT-Line’ grades are now eligible, reducing the entry price of the electric SUV to £31,555 including the incentive.
