Schaltbau expands DC component lineup with bidirectional contactors

German DC technology provider Schaltbau is expanding the portfolio of its subsidiary Eddicy with a series of compact high-performance contactors that have been specially developed for stationary and mobile megawatt charging systems of Level 2 and 3.

The new C305 and C805 contactors are designed for the megawatt charging standard level 2 with up to 1500A. Further up the capacity chain are the bidirectional contactors C330 and C830, which are customised for MCS level 3 with 3000A.

Schaltbau writes that all four of the connector products are built featuring a “compact, open-isolation concept,” which prevents rupturing under heavy failure conditions and heavy short-circuit currents, helping to prevent damage to surrounding components. In further system safety features, the connectors can handle up to 15,000A current for five milliseconds, which helps prevent the contacts from burning out.

“Megawatt charging represents a milestone in commercial e-mobility. By reducing charging time to the length of a driver’s break, it significantly maximizes both flexibility and efficiency off green transportation,” said Helmut Pusch, CEO of Schaltbau GmbH Group. “With our new contactors, we are delivering the future of charging today, emphasizing our commitment to driving electrification for a sustainable future.”

Schaltbau presented its new component lineup at the ACT Expo in California, and plans to present the C305 and C330 at the smarter E Europe trade show in Germany from 7-9 of May.

Schaltbau describes itself as a global leader in DC power solutions and specializes in “products and solutions that drive electrification across industries.” Eddicy is a subsidiary founded to “develop cutting-edge solutions designed to meet the highest standards of safety and reliability for switching and protecting DC applications in energy and e-mobility.” The company is based in Munich and has over 1,000 employees spread across the globe.
