Peterbilt unveils new 567EV electric truck

US truck manufacturer Peterbilt has unveiled its latest electric model, the 567EV—touted by the company as its first battery-electric heavy-duty truck developed specifically for the vocational market. In parallel, Peterbilt’s 579EV is also moving into its next generation.

The all-new 567EV (pictured left) is thus especially suitable for vocational applications such as tipper trucks, refuse collection, utility services, and equipment transport. The electric truck has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of up to 82,000 lbs, or approximately 37.2 tonnes. It will be available both as a full truck and as a tractor unit.

Customers can choose from four battery configurations ranging from 250 kWh to 625 kWh. Fast charging to 80 per cent takes between 80 and 120 minutes, depending on the variant. The driving range is quoted at 100 to 250 miles (around 160 to 400 kilometres), based on the selected battery.

The motor delivers up to 605 hp (445 kW), while optional electric power take-offs (ePTOs) with outputs of 25 kW or 150 kW are also available.

“Designed for performance and efficiency, the next evolution of Peterbilt battery-electric vehicles offer industry-leading versatility, fast-charging capabilities and advanced safety features to meet the needs of today’s fleet and vocational operations,” said Erik Johnson, assistant general manager, Sales and Marketing for Peterbilt.

Alongside the brand-new 567EV, Peterbilt also introduced the next generation of the 579EV—a model already in use by operators such as Einride. According to the manufacturer, the updated 579EV is well-suited for regional haul and distribution transport, offering enhanced performance figures and three battery options with a maximum range of 200 miles (around 320 kilometres).

The truck supports 350 kW DC fast charging, reaching 80 per cent in just 90 minutes. Both new models feature programmable charge scheduling to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates.

Peterbilt initially planned to launch a hydrogen fuel cell version of the 579EV this year. However, as with the T680 from sister brand Kenworth, the start of production has been postponed indefinitely. Kenworth cites the lack of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in the United States as the primary reason for the delay. Both Peterbilt and Kenworth, along with Dutch brand DAF, operate under the umbrella of commercial vehicle group Paccar.
