Greenlane opens flagship truck charging hub
The new electric truck charging site is located in Colton, California, at the intersection of Interstates 215 and 10. It features a total of 41 charging points, 12 of which are based on liquid-cooled, dual-port CCS 400 kW charging towers accessible by pull-through lanes. The remaining 29 points are accessible by bobtail lanes with 180 kW charging towers. The hub also features 24/7 security and a large rest-stop area, including a lounge with food and drink, bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, and mobile device charging. The Colton site remarkably opened just eight months after construction first began, and was supported by a $15m grant from the Carl Moyer Zero-Emission Infrastructure Program.
Nevoya, Greenlane’s first customer, will not only operate its electric fleet out of the site but also have access to both charging infrastructure and on-site office space. The partnership will eventually see Nevoya scale up to 100 electric trucks along Greenlane routes. Greenlane also recently announced a collaboration with Volvo Trucks, with drivers using Volvo Open Charge able to reserve chargers onsite via an app.
It’s the first of several charging hubs that Greenlane is planning in the region, with the company set to build similar sites along its I-15 commercial EV charging corridor. That will translate to a Greenlane site every 60 to 90 miles (96-144 km) in the towns of Long Beach, Barstow, and Baker in California, up to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Greenlane CEO Patrick Macdonald-King said: “Opening the Colton site and bringing on a top-tier partner like Nevoya in the same week is awesome, but it also reinforces that investment in high-traffic freight corridors helps drive economic growth by supporting local businesses through increased traffic and creating quality job opportunities for municipalities that have sought this growth for years. By ensuring truckers have access to reliable, high-speed charging when and where they need it, our team is helping electrify the backbone of American commerce.”
