Carlsberg Sweden expands electric logistics with Einride partnership

Carlsberg Sweden is intensifying its commitment to sustainable logistics by expanding its collaboration with Swedish freight technology company Einride. By the end of 2025, up to 40% of Carlsberg Sweden's transport operations in southern and western Sweden will be electrified, utilising Einride's electric trucks and AI-driven freight platform.

The initiative will see the deployment of eight electric trucks, including trailers, significantly reducing the brewery’s carbon footprint. Carlsberg Sweden anticipates a reduction of approximately 2,460 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, equating to a 93% decrease compared to traditional diesel transport. By the end of the year, the company aims to have a total of eleven electric trucks in service in southern and western Sweden.

To commemorate this milestone, Carlsberg Sweden is launching a limited-edition alcohol-free beer, brewed, produced, and transported entirely using renewable energy and electric solutions. Each beer can comes with a QR code providing insights into the sustainable brewing process and the electric transport route between Malmö, Falkenberg, and Gothenburg.

The partnership with Einride began in 2022, focusing on electrifying heavy warehouse transport in Halland. In 2023, the collaboration expanded to include daily electric truck operations between Falkenberg and Ramlösa. The current expansion encompasses the entire beverage transport network between Carlsberg’s brewery in Falkenberg, the water factory in Ramlösa, and transhipment terminals in Gothenburg, Malmö, and Helsingborg. Additionally, it covers transportation from the packaging company Ball in Malmö to Falkenberg and Ramlösa, as well as direct distribution from Falkenberg to wholesale customers in Halmstad.

Einride will install charging infrastructure at strategic locations, including the Falkenberg brewery and the Ramlösa water factory, enabling trucks to charge during loading and unloading. The fleet will be managed using Einride’s Saga platform, which optimises electric vehicle operations through AI-driven logistics planning.

This initiative is part of Carlsberg Group’s broader ambition to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2040, demonstrating a significant step towards sustainable logistics and inspiring industry-wide change.

“We are excited about our partnership with Einride and the progress we are making towards better logistics together. At Carlsberg Sweden, we are constantly working to take concrete steps towards a more sustainable business, and having more electric vehicles in our transport chain is one example of this. We hope this can raise awareness of the importance of better and smarter logistics – and inspire others to take action in their industries,” said Peter Hammarstedt, CEO of Carlsberg Sweden.
