bp pulse opens first Boston charging Gigahub
The site features 10 DC fast charging towers connected to a total of 20 parking spaces. This translates to two cars per charger. Some bays will feature 400 kW chargers while others will have 150 kW, all powered by utility firm Eversource. The initial launch tariff will be priced at $0.36/kWh (before tax and fees), although bp pulse states this could change at any time.
Sujay Sharma, CEO of bp pulse America, said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to open our first site in Massachusetts. The Boston Gigahub is a significant step in our efforts to build a strategic and robust network of ultrafast chargers in the US. Airport locations in particular enable us to offer efficient and convenient solutions for EV drivers, rental car customers, and ride-hail drivers alike.”
The launch is part of bp pulse’s strategy in collaboration with Hertz to build charging locations, called ‘Gigahubs’, near airports and other high-traffic areas across the US. Gigahubs are currently located in 17 different states, with bp pulse further operating thousands more charge points at bp service stations across the US.
Earlier this month, bp pulse announced it has begun trialling Time-Of-Use pricing at sites across the US. This splits pricing into peak, off-peak and super off-peak time periods per day, creating variable pricing based on demand for each period.
