Dubai Taxi Company orders 200 all-electric BYD Seal vehicles
The Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) is partnering with Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, the official distributor of BYD in the United Arab Emirates. “The addition of 200 BYD electric vehicles from Al-Futtaim is a strategic step that reinforces DTC’s commitment to innovation, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability,” emphasized Mansoor Rahma Alfalasi, CEO of Dubai Taxi Company.
More than 86 per cent of DTC’s fleet is already environmentally friendly, a term used by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai to describe all-electric, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles. As reported, the authority’s goal is for only taxis with these three types of drive to be on the road in Dubai from 2027. DTC, in turn, wants to have only fully electric taxis in use by 2040, according to Mansoor Rahma Alfalasi.
Taxis play a major role in Dubai. There are around 11,400 taxis for every three million inhabitants, also in view of the large number of tourists. The largest operator is the Dubai Taxi Company with around 6,000 taxis and around 3,400 other vehicles that are used for limousine services, among other things. Other operators are also already focusing on electric taxis: Arabia Taxi, for example, introduced 269 Tesla Model 3s in Dubai two years ago.
