According to the company, Free2move exclusively operates electric vehicles for its carsharing services in Amsterdam – a policy maintained with the latest fleet expansion, as the Opel Mokka Electric is a purely battery-powered model. The compact SUV is available as an electric variant only with a 115 kW powertrain and a 54-kWh battery. By contrast, the technically related Corsa Electric is also offered with a 100 kW motor and a 50-kWh battery.

Both the Corsa Electric and the Peugeot e-208 are already part of the Free2move fleet in Amsterdam. The 50 Mokka Electric, like the two electric superminis, can be accessed via the Free2move app. Users can ‘locate, reserve, and unlock effortlessly. Flexible rental options, ranging from per-minute to hourly and daily rates, cater to diverse mobility needs’, Free2move states. “The integrated Digital Charging feature provides a more efficient and intelligent way to recharge electric vehicles across the entire fleet. Users can start charging directly from the app, eliminating the need for physical charging cards.”

According to Lotfi Louez, Co-CEO of Free2move, the new Mokka Electric are a response to user demand for a slightly larger electric vehicle. Apparently, 60 per cent of users ‘expressed a preference for this model’ in a recent survey, Louez said. “This collaboration with Opel allows us to offer vehicles that are perfectly aligned with customers’ needs, enhancing their overall experience with an easy-to-use charging experience, and is a first step towards the future inclusion of new models in the fleet. ”

Andres van der Kuil, Managing Director of Opel Netherlands, added: “This expansion with Free2move underscores the Mokka Electric’s growing role in sustainable urban transport. We look forward to supporting Free2move in Amsterdam and beyond.”

Free2move mainly relies on electric models from Stellantis brands. Only in March, the mobility subsidiary added 300 electric Fiat 500s to its German fleet, deployed across Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Cologne.

The Stellantis mobility brand Free2move acquired the carsharing business Share Now – formerly operated by BMW and Mercedes-Benz – back in 2022. The integration was finalised last year, and since 30 April 2024, Share Now GmbH has been operating under the name Free2move Deutschland GmbH.
