ZF announces major supply contract in India
ZF writes that the AxTrax 2 electric axle is designed to replace the engine, transmission and conventional axle to electrify a commercial vehicle. The electric axle drive is capable of delivering 210 kW of continuous power. Furthermore, as “part of ZF’s modular e-mobility kit, the AxTrax 2 integrates in-house developed components into an innovative axle-based solution that is highly efficient, compact and lightweight in design,” the German supplier wrote.
“This nomination demonstrates how leading manufacturers across the globe are increasingly attracted to our comprehensive technology portfolio,” said Prof. Dr. Peter Laier, Member of the ZF Board of Management, head of the Commercial Vehicle Solutions division and responsible for the India Region. “It shows how our tailored solutions support manufacturers at every stage of their electrification journey, enabling them to accelerate their transformation towards cleaner, more efficient mobility.”
ZF is increasingly looking to global markets, and has even put construction of a planned factory together with Wolfspeed in Germany on hold. A component factory was opened in China last year. In February, rumours even circulated that the supplier was considering spinning off its electric drive unit, citing financial difficulties.
India has been investing heavily in the electrification of its transport system, with Delhi even recently considering an official ban on internal combustion engines. The Indian state of Himachal Pradesh recently also put out a tender for a fleet of nearly 300 electric buses and accompanying charging infrastructure. Across the entire country, over 3,600 electric buses were registered last year.
