Over 220 Moeve fast charging points now in Spain and Portugal

The Spanish company says it has just reached the milestone of operating fast chargers at 100 motorway service stations in Spain and Portugal. Moeve has a total of 220 HPC points currently in operation, with a further 200 set to open.

Moeve states that it now operates the most motorway services fast charging points of any of its Spanish competitors, offering at least 150kW charging at its 220 charging points. The other 200 charging points are reportedly already built and are awaiting authorisation to open for public use. Customers can pay with card at any of these locations without the need for an app.

The company’s efforts are focused on five key routes through Spain and Portugal, namely the Mediterranean Corridor (A-7), the Plata Route (A-66), the route between Portugal and France (A-62, AP-1, AP-8), and Portugal’s main motorways. 70 per cent of the motorway services it covers are in Spain, with 30 per cent in Portugal.

Moeve has released some usage data from its Spanish and Portuguese network which gives an indication of the chargers’ performance. In Spain, the highest number of recharges occurs on Saturdays at midday, with an average charging time of 33 minutes and an average power output of 68kW.

Meanwhile, at its Portuguese charge points, Sunday afternoon is the peak usage time, with an average charging time of 34 minutes and average power of 57kW. It suggests a slight differential in the availability of HPC points between Spain and Portugal, if not performance.

Formerly known as Cepsa, Moeve rebranded in December 2024 to focus on becoming a ‘low carbon business’. It has since divested 70% of its oil production assets, launched a 2 gigawatt green hydrogen facility and a biofuels plant in Andalusia, and expanded its electric vehicle charging offering. It already operated over 1,800 rest stops and petrol stations across Spain and Portugal prior to the rebrand. The company says it is now evolving facilities at these locations to offer more charging as well as more modern rest stops for customers.

“We are taking advantage of the full potential of our network by placing service stations in strategic locations, ensuring accessible charging points for electric vehicle users,” said Isabel Gorgoso, director of new mobility at Moeve. “Our goal is also to be recognised as a quality operator, providing our customers with the best possible experience through ultra-fast charging, which saves them valuable time.”

Additionally, users of the Moeve app can access as many as 90,000 other charging points across Europe. The company has interoperability agreements with the likes of Ionity, Zunder, Endesa, EnBW, Emovili and others, covering France, Portugal, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Netherlands and Poland.
