Volvo Trucks North America partners with Greenlane
According to the press release, the charging hub will be located in the city of Colton, close to San Bernadino and east of Los Angeles. It will feature ” over 40 publicly accessible chargers for heavy-, medium- and light-duty zero-emissions vehicles.” The next sites are planned for Long Beach, Barstow, and Baker.
Greenlane is building a truck charging corridor along the I-15, so between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The corridor will be around 280 miles (450 kilometres) long, with charging stops planned every 60 to 90 miles apart. It will eventually include over 100 charging stations, including DC chargers with up to 400 kW of power.
The charge point operator (CPO) is a joint venture between Daimler Truck North America (DTNA), NextEra Energy Resources, and Blackrock. It was founded and first announced plans to build a US-wide network of charging and hydrogen refuelling stations in 2022.
Greenlane says that it is Volvo Trucks North America’s first official COP in the North American market. As part of the new partnership, drivers using Volvo Open Charge will have access to features in addition to plugging in. They will, for instance, be able to reserve a charger in advance.
“Our partnership with Volvo is a first-of-its-kind collaboration to deliver public charging solutions tailored to the needs of medium- and heavy-duty fleets,” said Patrick Macdonald-King, CEO of Greenlane. “By streamlining the transition to electric fleets, we are providing a future-ready solution that keeps goods and services moving and drives meaningful progress toward zero-emissions freight transportation.”
