Solaris signs supply deal with Traktionssysteme Austria
Traktionssysteme Austria’s permanent magnet synchronous motor offers a peak output of 420 kW, a maximum torque of 4,000 Nm and an efficiency of over 97 per cent. Its compact design allows it to be used in various bus sizes, regardless of whether they are powered by fuel cells or batteries. Solaris will be using the T3 motors in its 12-, 15-, and 18-meter electric bus models. TSA also had a hand in the design of these vehicles, which are based on a modular drive architecture, eliminating the need for a conventional motor tower. ‘This innovative design increases passenger space and maximizes the vehicle’s usable area while enabling battery placement exclusively on the roof,’ the company writes.
The corresponding framework agreement for the supply deal was already concluded in June 2024, and the first five TSA motors for Urbino 18 Electric articulated buses used in Sweden were delivered in December 2024.
Traktionssysteme Austria is also ramping up production capacities at its facility in Wiener Neudorf, with plans to invest about 35 million euros into the Austrian production site over the next years. So far, the company has invested heavily in automation, which has reduced production times and improved process reliability. Some of the funds are already allocated, as the company CEO explains.
“By 2030, we will invest approximately 1.3 million euros in cutting-edge production technologies and our newly repurposed Plant 2 in Wiener Neudorf, which is now dedicated to manufacturing our ROAD motors,” said Robert Tencl, CEO of Traktionssysteme Austria. “There is a tremendous interest in our products, particularly in the commercial road vehicle sector. We are receiving numerous inquiries from across Europe and the United States. With this investment roadmap, we are well-positioned to meet the growing demands of the market and actively shape the future of electromobility.”
