Hyundai unveils ‘gaming-inspired’ Insteroid concept

Based on the Hyundai Inster, the concept EV features a 'fully adjustable' interior, sports features and a bright orange and white colour scheme. Hyundai said the concept will be exhibited at the Seoul Mobility Show from April 3 to 13.

Images of the concept vehicle show a stripped-back interior with a roll cage, bucket seats, and a unique modular instrument board. With bright LED displays and details, the Insteroid certainly looks similar to a videogame driving simulator. The exterior is similarly geared towards gamer tastes and aesthetics, and wouldn’t look out of place in a ‘Need For Speed’ game thanks to its prominent spoiler, wheel arches and widened body. It even has a ‘Drift Mode’ – perfect for racers who like to drive donuts around empty car parks.

Hyundai has stated that the concept is a ‘playful’ take on its existing Inster EV, with a Beat House sound system, a display for messaging called the Message Grid, and several lightweight lattice structures throughout. The brand has also demonstrated the use of ‘eco-conscious materials’ such as 3D knitted fabric made from recycled yarn.

The Interoid was unveiled on April 1 at a launch event in downtown Seoul, Korea, which also featured the current Inster, the Inster Cross, and even the ‘Interoid Kart’.

In a press release, Hyundai said the concept car reflects its ‘growing partnerships in the gaming industry’: “Following successful ventures with platforms like Roblox and ZEPETO, this initiative aims to connect with younger audiences through authentic engagement.”

According to the company, the concept car was designed by the European design team of the Hyundai Motor Group. The team is based in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The goal, according to Hyundai, is to ‘delivering a refreshed brand image while further boosting consumer interest in Inster.’ The latter can already be ordered in Germany starting at 23,900 euros.
