Coulomb Solutions launches ‘Super Long Life’ commercial vehicle battery
The batteries have a specific energy of 175WH/kg and an energy density of 270WH/L, with Coulomb seemingly offering a warranty for the battery’s entire lifespan.
The new battery system was designed by Chinese battery manufacturer CATL. It will be used in commercial vehicles including last-mile delivery vehicles, transit buses, school buses, trains, and even off-road and marine vehicles, says Coulomb. CATL manufactures the cells, with Coulomb assembling the packs in and for North America. Orders are now open for September delivery, with CSI offering support to OEM customers looking to integrate the battery packs into their vehicles.
CATL launched a battery cell with similar specs in the form of the Tectrans B cell in September 2024. Developed specifically for electric buses, CATL claimed it has an almost identical energy density of 175 Wh/kg, a lifespan of 15 years / 1.5 million kilometers.
David Mazaika, CEO of Coulomb Solutions, said: “CSI’s new Super Long-Life series of battery packs will enable our OEM customers requiring long-life operation to achieve it without the extra cost of an additional battery replacement, or the lost downtime in operations from having to make the replacement. This provides fleets confidence that they know what the vehicle battery costs will be for the life of the vehicle.”
