Amperfied to manage SAP’s charging infrastructure

Amperfied GmbH, a subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, has won a major contract for electric car fleets. The company will take over the operational management of the charging infrastructure in Germany for SAP.

Implementation will begin in the second quarter of 2025 with the migration of 1,720 existing SAP charging points to Amperfied’s cloud backend. This involves the use of charging hardware from various providers. A further expansion to around 3,700 charging points is also planned. Whether Amperfied charging points will be those primarily used remains unclear.

The order includes “back-end management of the charging stations, the provision and management of access media such as charging cards and an app for currently around 6,500 employees with electric and hybrid vehicles.” This also involves comprehensive reporting, technical support and maintenance, as well as fraud prevention measures. A cloud-based software platform will enable “intelligent charge point and process management,” says Heidelberger Druck.

According to the parent company, the SAP cooperation will see “Amperfied’s transformation into a provider of tailor-made e-mobility services for business customers.” When Germany funded private wallboxes, Heidelberg also had an increasing number of private customers. Thanks to the new solutions, the company says it is focusing on charging vehicle fleets at company locations. The offer includes a cloud-based backend with an integrated billing solution, the integration of existing charging points, maintenance services and a rental model for the charging infrastructure.

SAP, for its part, is consistently pushing ahead with the electrification of its vehicle fleet. The goal is to convert the entire fleet of around 19,000 vehicles by 2030. As early as 2021, the software company announced that from 1 January 2025, it would only order electric company cars. The target has since been postponed to 2026, but from April 2025, the choice of vehicle will be limited to electric cars. So far, SAP has around 4,800 purely electric cars in its fleet and 4,400 hybrids. Furthermore, the charging infrastructure will be continuously expanded to accommodate the growing number of electric vehicles.

“Converting our vehicle fleet is a cornerstone of our sustainability goals, which include electrifying the entire fleet by 2030,” says Steffen Krautwasser, Global Head of Car Fleet at SAP. “In Amperfied, we have found an experienced and local partner who will help us ensure that the charging infrastructure keeps pace with the growing number of electric cars in our fleet.”
