Hyundai and Genesis now offer US customers a free NACS charging adapter, giving them access to more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers across the United States. They are the latest EV makers to offer adapters to its customers.

The offer is being extended to anyone who owns a Hyundai or Genesis EV sold in the US, including the KONA Electric, IONIQ Electric hatchback, IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and the 2025 IONIQ 5 N. Hyundai states that it plans to include native NACS ports on future EVs, including the 2025 IONIQ 5 and the 2026 IONIQ 9 – meaning the adapter will only be necessary for current or older Hyundai EVs.

Drivers of the Genesis GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80 with a CCS1 port will also be able to claim an adapter.

Customers who bought their vehicles before 31 January 2025 will begin receiving emails from April 7 instructing them how to redeem their free adapter. They must have an active MyHyundai or MyGenesis account and opt-in to email communications to get the email offer and will have 60 days to redeem the adapter.

Hyundai claims that the introduction of the adapter ‘nearly doubles’ the availability of fast charging stations for its BEVs.

Olabisi Boyle, SVP of Product Planning and Mobility Strategy for Hyundai North America, said: “Starting today, more Hyundai EV customers will have access to 20,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America, doubling their fast-charging options. This move improves the public charging experience by giving our customers even more choices. It’s a vital part of our commitment to ease America’s transition to electric vehicle ownership.”

Hyundai and Genesis follow the likes of Honda, Acura, Ford, Volvo, GM and others who have offered their customers complimentary NACS adapters in the US. This comes after the public licensing of NACS by Tesla in late 2022, with many EV makers now introducing the standard on their newer vehicles while providing adapters for older models.
