Instavolt opens EV charging ‘superhub’ in the UK

InstaVolt has opened the largest and most advanced fast-charging 'Superhub' in the UK so far, located near the A34 and close to junction 9 of the M3, in Winchester, England.

The new Winchester Superhub offers a total of 44 rapid chargers, each capable of delivering up to 160kW of power. On-site solar farms and 4 MW of “cutting-edge battery storage technology” are both also integrated in the ‘Superhub.’ Once completed, the solar farm will feature “870 solar panels and the site will use a mixture of solar energy, battery storage, and renewable grid power to keep chargers running at optimum capacity.”

“The Winchester Superhub isn’t just a charging hub – it’s a flagship site that sets a new standard for ultra-rapid EV charging. As our largest and most advanced site to date, it delivers industry-leading reliability at an unprecedented scale, ensuring drivers can charge quickly and with confidence,” explained Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, adding: “Above all, we are redefining what EV drivers can expect when they charge, seamless, ultra-rapid, and future-proofed charging that makes the switch to electric easier, faster, and more accessible than ever before.”

Instavolt advertises that the charging hub is not just for the vehicles, as several steps were taken to ensure user comforts are provided, including “24/7 toilet facilities [to] ensure convenience for those travelling at night or taking advantage of InstaVolt’s off-peak charging tariff, while a play park allows children to stretch their legs while their parents recharge.”

Superfast at 160kW??? Got to joking. Ionity has 350kW stations and my EV6 can charge at 236kW

Public fast chargers are all well and good but they are too bloody expensive, we can't charge at home but we are trying to do our bit for the environment but the cost of normally 85p per kwh is too muchElectricity in the country is ridiculously high and something needs to be done but 27p at home vs 85p for fast chargers is too muchI get company's need to make money and pay back the equipment and all that but isn't the government giving out grants for things like this if not maybe they should be instead of giving out hand outs to oil and gas companies that make ludicrous amounts of cash drilling our natural resources and in turn making climate change worse

My house set back from road so cant have electric charger at home. Trying to charge on public ones a nightmare lots dont work as app doesn't work others take up to 50 from bank account and can take days to refund the difference wouldn't reckon recommend getting electric car to anyone. Now car tax going up but no bloody infrastructure.

You know they say do not stand under a tree in a thunder storm so why I can not see any Lightning Protection for the solar/battery storage for the site?

It has to be said that 85p/kwh for electricity delivered at only 160kw (if your car can take it) is somewhat of a joke!? Unfortunately there's not much in the area (looking on ZapMap) that's both much cheaper and quicker, unless you have a Tesla - maybe they should open up all Superchargers to all, to make up for certain gestures of late........ call it a gesture of goodwill or something!? Of course, we get the usual comments from those whom can charge at home for pennies but there needs to be a solution nationally for the 50% or so of UK households whom cannot charge at home! And this probably isn't it? But, I guess as in the past years where councils were desperate for charger installations, companies can come in and get planning permission for installing somewhat inferior products, especially considering future charging needs and speeds! Yes, Instavolt offers a considerable amount off to account (free) holders after 10pm (I think it's 55p/kwh or so), but this needs to be brought down in timescale somewhat! There are other, slightly cheaper/slower options available further into Winchester so Instavolt should offer things that people cannot get in Winchester itself other than 24hr toilets etc!

Actually the cost of 350kw stations for grid demand and hardware is not justified for a few minutes saved. See evdatabase for charge time exampleshttps://ev-database.org/car/2236/Hyundai-IONIQ-5-84-kWh-RWD

While ever people are charging at these stations they will not reduce price i know barley use them always charge at home now if you go on holiday and are away from home for 1week do what i do buy a granny cable and use the campsites electricity i pay for the pitch with u limited electric yes charges slow but i am there all week so by the time i go home i have been able to drive around and also charge to full for freee hahaha.....But i understand anyone not able to have a charger fitted to there home do not get a electric car will most likley cost you more to run then a fuel car but aslong as you have good neighbours and they will not repirt you for charging car and lead across pavment use granny cable i managed to do my weekly commute and my normal life runs to shopping and visiting family for couple of mobths no issues with the granny cable just had to put it on charge every time i got home and on my days off work allow to charge to 100%And OVO is best supplier they do a charge anytime abit like octopus but honestly no matter the time of day i charge i get 7p pkwh so for me its 100% best supplier

Most of you comments refer to kwh whereas it should be kWh. Watt is a proper name and therefore a capital letter.
