Genesis delivers revised GV60

The revised Genesis GV60 is getting ready to hit the road in South Korea. This is the first update for the all-electric SUV model since its launch in October 2021. Prices and specifications for the European market will be announced "in due course."

When it comes to the specifications, basically only the exact WLTP range has yet to be communicated. What is known is that the GV60 now has a new battery with an increased energy content from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh. The charging capacity should also increase from 240 to 260 kW, in line with the changes to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, both E-GMP sister models, so the charging time from ten to 80 per cent remains at the familiar 18 minutes.

Together with the optimised aerodynamics, the facelift will increase the total range of the GV60 from 451 to 481 kilometres, according to the Korean testing cycle. The current model has a maximum range of 517 kilometres according to the European WLTP cycle, which is also expected to increase as part of the model revision.

Genesis already presented the design changes in January. In the latest press release, Genesis Europe also emphasises improvements made to the chassis. “Genesis has improved the front and rear shock absorber valves applied to GV60’s Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS), increasing the tuning flexibility of the damping force to enhance vehicle stability and ride comfort. Additionally, the hydro bushings previously applied only to the front suspension have been added to the rear, minimising road vibrations,” explains the press release. In addition, the modified steering gear ratio should improve responsiveness and feedback. Noise comfort should also be better thanks to different damping materials and a new seal on the windscreen.

Genesis already provided specific performance data, at least for the GV60 with all-wheel drive: While the standard Ioniq 5 and EV6 models have a maximum output of 239 kW, the high-performance GV60 AWD is expected to offer 360 kW of power and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. In internal tests at the Hyundai Motor Group’s Namyang R&D Centre, the vehicle is said to have accelerated to 100 kph in four seconds – although this is not an official measurement value.

Although the GV60 does not quite match the 478 kW output of the Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT, it does have some features from the two top models. These include the ‘Virtual Gear Shift’ (VGS), supposed to offer a driving experience similar to that of sporty combustion engines with simulated gear changes. However, a ‘Hidden Drift Mode’ (power distribution and brake control ensure greater oversteer in bends) and an ‘Electronic Limited Slip Differential’ (e-LSD) will also be available.
