Volvo Buses receives follow-up order from Sweden

Swedish public transport company Svealandstrafiken has ordered an additional 33 electric city buses from Volvo Buses. They are expected to hit the road in 2026. It brings the order with Volvo Buses to 106 units.

The order comes after Svealandstrafiken ordered a total of 73 electric buses from Volvo earlier this year. Specifically, the order was for 13 articulated buses and 60 regional buses. The former will operate in Örebro and should be delivered by Volvo Buses in early 2026. The latter will be put in service for regional operations in both Örebro County and Västmanland County. Delivery is expected for early 2027.

The newly placed order is for 33 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated, which will also be used in Örebro. In total, the Swedish public transport operator will then receive 46 city buses by Volvo starting next year – that is on top of the units ordered in 2020. The 17 Volvo electric buses are in operation on urban traffic routes in Västerås.

The deal with Volvo replaces earlier orders from the financially troubled Dutch manufacturer Ebusco, which were cancelled by mutual agreement.

“We are looking forward to continuing our collaboration with Volvo Buses, a company that shares our commitment to quality and innovation in public transport,” says Geert Schaap, Head of Technology & Innovation, Svealandstrafiken.

“The order for 106 electric buses from Svealandstrafiken shows that we have chosen the right path in the strategic change we have implemented in Europe. Together with our partners, we will continue to develop solutions for public transport, and through our collaborations with external bodybuilders, we can also adapt our offer, depending on the customer and market,” says Thomas Nylund, VP, Cluster Europe, Volvo Buses.
