Rivian delivers electric ice cream truck for Ben & Jerry’s
This electric ice cream van, which was specially developed for Ben & Jerry’s on the basis of the Rivian van, shows that the electric van is not only suitable for delivering Amazon parcels. The electric ice-cream van will first be presented at the SXSW event in Austin, Texas and will then continue to roll through the USA.
The electric transporter van itself has a range of up to 161 miles and is designed to work at events and for catering. However, Rivian added the following in its press release: “Actual vehicle capability will depend on selected options and trim. Performance estimates vary based on battery pack, tire, drive modes, vehicle load and weather.” Additionally, the manufacturer wrote: “Range will vary based on a number of factors, including battery pack, tires, drive mode, HVAC setting, driving behavior, weather, vehicle condition and battery age.”
So far, only two electric ‘scoop trucks’ have been produced, one of which will debut at an event in Austin, Texas, this week. No further information was released regarding whether Ben & Jerry’s plans to field a fleet of the vehicles, however, another sentence makes it clear that Ben & Jerry’s will not be the only customer that can purchase the electric ice cream truck :”Rivian’s recent announcement launching the Rivian Commercial Van to businesses across the U.S. has helped make these scoop trucks possible, offering unique solutions to fleet customers looking to transition off fossil fuels and into modern, electric commercial solutions.”
“Collaborating with the Ben & Jerry’s team to build the next generation of electric scoop trucks has been an incredible experience. It’s one of those projects that just makes the team smile,” said Brian Gase, Senior Director of Prototype Development at Rivian. “We can’t wait for people to stop by for some ice cream and see it in action for the first time during SXSW!”
“Working with Rivian, an industry leader that is committed to sustainability is an ice cream dream come true,” added Ben & Jerry’s Sean Slattery, US Integrated Marketing project lead. “Today, Rivian helped Ben & Jerry’s reduce our reliance on fossil fuels in a small way, while making things a little bit cooler… which, as an ice cream company, is extremely difficult to do.”
