Arval reports strong 2024 growth following BEV fleet expansion

The corporate vehicle leasing firm said it witnessed 5.6 per cent organic growth in its leased fleet last year, with a 52 per cent increase in the number of battery-electric vehicles. Specifically, it now leases 253,373 BEVs.

A subsidiary of BNP-Paribas, Arval said its ambition is to continue growing the number of EVs in its fleet as 2025 progresses. The company specialises in commercial vehicle leases for over 400,000 customers in 29 countries, including the UK and much of Europe. It claims the proportion of fully electric vehicles in its fleet stood at 253,373 by the end of 2024, and represents 22.6% of all new vehicle orders.

Much of this is being driven by a growth in large corporate clients, which grew by 5% to 460,000 of all leased vehicles worldwide. Arval says it also strengthened its digital and connected vehicle services, with more than 800,000 connected vehicles now in service.

Interesting from an electric mobility perspective: By the end of 2024, there were 573,086 electrified vehicles in the fleet alone, a share of 31.1 per cent. This represents an increase of 31 per cent compared to 2023. However, Arval does not break down the electrified vehicles into HEVs and PHEVs.

Nevertheless, the growth in purely battery-electric vehicles was significantly greater. The increase in 2024 was 52 per cent compared to the previous year. Although 22.6 per cent of new vehicle orders in 2024 were for this type of drive, they only accounted for 14.1 per cent of Arval’s total stock at 253,373 units. Still: “The increase in BEVs put on the road by Arval in Europe is higher than the market, with growth of 35% for Arval in 2024, compared to BEV registrations down by 2% in Europe (ACEA figures for EU, EFTA and UK, Passenger and Light Commercial Vehicles),” Arval said in a statement.

In 2025, the company hopes to continue supporting its customers in electrifying their fleet, as well as expanding its partnerships with charging point operators. “The year 2025 will mark the continuation of the strategic plan Arval Beyond launched in 2020, with its “Arval 26 & Beyond” , which aim is to establish the company’s priority projects and confirming certain objectives or setting new ones to be achieved by the end of 2026,” the company states.

“In 2024, we confirmed the strength of our collective and partnership momentum by making major strategic advances. Together, thanks to the mobilisation of our employees, the support of BNP Paribas and the trust of our partners, we have been able to take new steps to better support our customers in their mobility and their energy transition,” says Alain van Groenendael, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Arval. “These solid foundations enable us to approach 2025 with ambition and determination, ready to take on new challenges and continue to create sustainable value in a profoundly changing market. ”

In April 2024, Arval announced a charging partnership with Fastned and Last Mile Solutions across seven European countries – giving its customers access to over 600,000 charging points via a single platform. The partnership marks another step towards Arval’s goal of offering 350,000 battery-powered EVs by 2025.

Bart Beckers, Arval Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Moving forward, while the global charging infrastructure continues to develop, it is necessary for us to provide charging solutions to our customers for their vehicles.”
