Fastned opens its largest fast-charging hub in the UK
Fastned says that it has invested millions of euros in the new charging hub in Northern Ireland. And that the Banbridge hub is Northern Ireland’s fastest charging hub to date. At the Hypercharger HYC400, EVs can charge up to 100 miles in 5 minutes.
As with other Fastned fast-charging stations, the new hub just 30 minutes from Belfast is covered with solar panels and designed with the ‘drive-through’ principle in mind. It is located just off the A1, and is the first Fastned station in the UK since 2019 to feature a ‘drive-thru’ format.
The Banbridge charging hub is Fastned’s first in the region, with a second charging station set to open in nearby Antrim in March. In total, Fastned invested “over three million pounds in the purchase and development of the Banbridge and Antrim charging hubs.”
While the UK as a whole has over a million EV chargers available, Northern Ireland currently has 687 chargers, says Fastned. Its new stations will thus contribute to greater availability of chargers in a region.
“Northern Ireland is in desperate need of reliable ultra-rapid charging infrastructure. That’s why we’re proud and excited to be opening our biggest and best charging hub in the UK, in Banbridge,” said Tom Hurst, Country Director for UK and Ireland at Fastned.
“This hub is not only a game-changer for Northern Ireland’s EV drivers, but it marks our first step into the region. We’re excited to see what’s next and to work with others to improve availability of charging infrastructure in the region.”
Fastned operates an additional 30 charging hubs across its UK network, plus 347 across six European countries.
