Rolls-Royce to release a stronger Spectre

Rolls-Royce is giving its only purely electric model to date, the Spectre, more power with the new 'Black Badge' variant. This makes the electric car the most powerful Rolls-Royce ever.

Compared to 430 kW in the standard Spectre, the new Black Badge Spectre delivers 485 kW in Infinity mode. This Infinity mode can be activated via a special button on the steering wheel and ensures a more direct throttle response. ‘As soon as this mode is activated, the displays become more lively to reflect the change in character of the car,’ explains Rolls-Royce. When ‘Spirited Mode’ (as Rolls-Royce calls Launch Control) is activated, the drive releases 1,075 Nm of torque (standard version: 900 Nm) and can accelerate the Black Badge model to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds – 0.4 seconds faster than usual.

There are no known changes to the battery. However, the British company has been reluctant to provide information on the battery anyway. It is now known that the energy content is 102 kWh. In view of the increase in performance, however, the Black Badge Spectre is unlikely to come close to the 520 kilometres WLTP range of the standard model.

Rolls-Royce offers slightly more powerful and dynamically tuned variants of its luxury cars under the ‘Black Badge’ label. This also applies to the Black Badge Spectre, where the steering and suspension have been adapted. There are also changes to the design, a new exterior colour (although Rolls-Royces can be painted to customer specifications anyway) and special 23-inch wheels.

For the development, Rolls-Royce says it has analysed ‘hundreds of thousands of miles of anonymised driving data from Black Badge customers’ with their combustion Rolls-Royces and, in response to explicit customer demand, has also already ‘created a secret fleet of Black Badge Spectres’ and let customers test these vehicles.

“The development of Black Badge Spectre began with our deep understanding of engineering the uncompromising nature of the Black Badge character, overlaid with the detailed analysis of client feedback and their driving style,” explains Bernhard Dressler, Technical Director, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, adding: “Black Badge owners from around the world permitted our specialists to access their anonymised data, enabling us to create a new driving experience perfectly suited to – and validated by – the way our clients use their motor car.”
