Bosch discontinues its ‘Charge My EV’ charging service

Automotive supplier Bosch will discontinue its own charging service at the end of the first quarter. In an e-mail to customers, the company announced that it will end its "activities in the area of charging services" on 31 March 2025. Bosch had only entered into a new partnership for its charging service last year.

Bosch is already clear in the subject line of the e-mail to affected customers, which has been made available to electrive (in German): “[IMPORTANT] Termination of charging services,” it says. “We find ourselves in a highly competitive market that is lagging far behind the expected growth,” Bosch writes. ‘We are thus terminating the user contract concluded with you for the ‘Charge My EV’ app in accordance with the paragraph ‘Duration, Termination’ with effect from 31 March 2025. After this date, you will no longer be able to use the charging services.”

From 1 April, customers “will no longer be able to log in, charge or pay and will no longer have access to their data.” The RFID charging card will also be deactivated. According to Bosch, customers’ personal data will be deleted within two months. “However, this only applies if the deletion does not conflict with any statutory retention obligations, such as data required for invoicing and accounting,” the e-mail states. Outstanding invoices must still be paid if the service is used before the end of March.

In January 2024, Bosch entered into a charging partnership with the Geely brand Lotus. Buyers of an electric Lotus were given access to more than 600,000 public charging stations in 30 European countries via Bosch’s charging services, primarily in the main markets of the UK, Germany and France, as was stated at the time. The Stellantis brand Maserati had also already entered into a charging partnership with Bosch in 2023 and will now probably have to look for a new provider.

The fact that Bosch is closely looking at some of its business areas comes as no surprise. In November, the supplier announced its intention to cut 5,500 jobs worldwide, 3,800 of which were in Germany. However, these were still plans and not yet a concrete decision. Cuts will be made in the areas of assistance systems and autonomous driving, for example, as well as at the Hildesheim plant, where Bosch produces electric motors.
