Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric premieres in Norway

The Norwegian bus company Vy Buss has ordered three Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric buses. The electric buses will be deployed on routes in Slemmestad, a suburb of Oslo, starting in July 2025. It also marks the electric midibus's debut on the Norwegian market.

This is the shortest electric bus in the Polish manufacturer’s portfolio since 2021. “Several dozen customers in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, and Italy” have already opted for the Urbino 9 LE electric. Vy Buss has now placed the first order from Norway.

The nine-metre-long electric bus has an electric central motor with a peak output of 220 kW. The necessary energy is supplied by batteries with an energy capacity of up to 350 kWh. The energy storage system is charged via a plug as standard. Solaris also offers pantograph charging for the Urbino 9 LE electric as an option. However, the configuration chosen by the public transport company is not specified.

Instead, the Poles emphasise the special equipment for use in the Norwegian region: the buses for Vy Buss are to be equipped with a so-called ‘Scandinavian package,’ which includes additional thermal insulation as well as features such as a snow chain drawer and special anti-elk lights to prevent wild animals from running onto the road.

“Norway has had success for many years with the diesel version of Solaris Urbino 8,9 LE, a perfect bus for countryside travel and smaller towns. Now, we aim for the new 9 LE electric to be just as successful, and are proud to introduce this bus to the Norwegian market together with Vy”, said Sverre Skaar, CEO Solaris Norge AS.
