China: Great Wall Motors signs charging deal with Nio
The partnership grants users of GWM’s four brands access to Nio chargers in China – meaning Haval, WEY, ORA, and TANK brands can now plug in there. The stations can be found and used via the GWM and the dedicated owner app.
According to Chinese media, Nio has 3,113 battery swap stations and 25,467 charging piles across China. About half (12,334 charging points) are part of Nio’s supercharging network spread across 2,665 locations. The remaining 13,133 charging piles are part of the part of Nio’s 1,688 destination charging stations.
Nio has already signed similar deals with other Chinese carmakers. In fact, this is its 17th partnership in the country. Just recently with Xiaomi. The charging network has always been open to third parties. However, deals like the one with Xiaomi and now Great Wall Motors help provide a better experience, making it more attractive to customers.
According to data compiled by CN EV China, Great Wall Motors sold 321,795 new energy vehicles in China in 2024. That includes battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Just like many other automakers, the company experienced a slump in sales at the beginning of 2025 compared to December, largely due to the Chinese New Year holiday. In January, GWM delivered 22,263 NEVs, which is 11.5 per cent less than in December 2024.
