Xpeng launches its electric SUV G6 in the UK
At the launch, the Chinese carmaker showcased its entire portfolio, meaning the G6, the G9, the P7+, and the X9. Even the eVTOL X2 flying car by Xpeng Aeroht was on display. Nevertheless, Xpeng has only opened the order books for the electric SUV G6. It says it will expand its range in the UK but has yet to give a timetable.
However, the automaker announced that it will open 20 dealerships in the UK this year through a partnership with International Motors Ltd (IML).
“Our launch in the UK, in partnership with International Motors Ltd (IML), marks a significant step in XPENG’s European and global expansion,” said Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of Xpeng. “We are excited to bring a new era of smarter, more sustainable mobility to the UK market and globally. With XPENG’s cutting-edge proprietary technology – ranging from futuristic design and impressive range to ultra-fast charging – we are confident that our vehicles will resonate with UK consumers, offering exceptional quality, innovation, and an outstanding driving experience.”
Since the European launch in Norway in 2021, Xpeng has expanded its sales to the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Spain and Portugal, Ireland and now the UK. And the carmaker does plan to conquer other European markets.
The Xpeng G6 is the fifth model in Xpeng’s range and the third to be offered in Europe. It became available in Europe in early 2024. First in the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden.
The Chinese electric car manufacturer unveiled the five-seater in April 2023 at Auto China in Shanghai. The coupé-like electric SUV is the first Xpeng model based on the new 800-volt SEPA 2.0 platform. The model has rear-wheel drive as standard but can also be selected with all-wheel drive as an option. The base model delivers 190 kW and 440 Nm, the single-engine long-range version 210 kW and 440 Nm and the all-wheel drive model 350 kW and 660 Nm. The latter will be able to accelerate to 100 kph in four seconds. According to Xpeng, all variants can reach speeds of up to 200 kph.
