Compleo UK to install hundreds of chargers in Islington
The first chargers will be installed early this year, with all 550+ units to be completed “over the next two years,” says Compleo UK. It does not say exactly how many AC and how many DC chargers it will build, only that it will set up and maintain a “mix of AC and DC chargers tailored to meet the diverse needs of Islington Council’s fully electric fleet which range from electric cars to coaches and tipper trucks.”
Most of the chargers will be installed for the borough’s waste and recycling fleet at Cottage Road, Islington. Again, there is no mention of the exact number or charging power.
“We’re thrilled to support such a forward-thinking council such as Islington,” said Matthew Downs, Head of Business Development at Compleo UK. “They are always looking ahead for sustainable solutions and we’re proud to supply them with future proof EV charging solutions.”
Councilor Rowena Champion, Executive Member for Environment, Air Quality and Transport, added: “We’re committed to creating a greener, healthier Islington, and this partnership with Compleo is a vital step in reducing our carbon footprint and improving air quality for our residents. By electrifying our fleet, we are leading by example and showing that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand.”
This is not the first time that Islington has put the focus on the electrification of its waste collection fleet. In 2023, the borough in northern London announced that it had installed “hundreds” of vehicle chargers for small cars and up to 26-tonne refuse collection vehicles. At the time, the council’s fleet included 80 fully electric vehicles, such as cage tippers and electric minibuses.
