Ionity partners with DoubleTree hotel, opens its largest HPC site in the UK

Charge point operator Ionity has opened a new charging hub in the UK at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dartford Bridge. With 24 ultra-fast chargers, it is Ionity's largest EV charging site in the country.

Each charger offers up to 350 kW. And it is only the first of six DoubleTree locations to be equipped with charging stations in the UK. In total, the hotel locations will feature 104 public rapid chargers, all accessible 24/7. The upcoming locations will be Newbury North, Coventry, M6 Junction 2 / M65 Junction, Bristol North, M4 / M5 Junction, Edinburgh Airport, and Glasgow Strathclyde, M8 Junction 7. Ionity has not communicated a timeline for the installation of the chargers.

According to reports, the partnership aligns with the UK government’s vision to see that 80 per cent of cars in the EU are electric by 2030.
Moreover, Ionity emphasises that its chargers are powered by renewable energy from wind, solar, or hydroelectric power.

“Partnering with IONITY is a huge step towards guaranteeing cutting-edge EV charging right across our DoubleTree by Hilton portfolio and opens up new revenue streams for us,” said Peter Stack, CEO of Klarent Hospitality, a Henderson Park owned company. “It’s crucial for us to futureproof our hotels against both the evolving needs of travellers and hotel guests, and our short and long-term sustainability commitments; this agreement delivers both.”

“It’s essential for travellers all across the UK to have access to high-quality charging infrastructure if we’re going to keep accelerating the transition to electric mobility. The UK has been one of the most successful countries to do so over 2024,” added Andreas Atkins, Country Manager UK & Ireland at IONITY. “Through partnerships like this that expand our ultra-rapid charging network, we can make long-distance EV travel more accessible, convenient, and reliable for all drivers—whether they are hotel guests, business travellers, or fleet operators.”

The Hilton DoubleTree is not the first hotel chain to sign a deal with the CPO. In 2024, Ionity and Village Hotel Club signed a partnership deal to install 380 ultra-rapid charging points across 33 hotels owned by the latter.

Sorry, but I don't get the point in building DC-Charging hubs at Hotels.
