Kia EV3 was the most popular car in the Netherlands in January
The Kia EV3 was registered 1,757 times in the Netherlands last month, giving it a market share of 5.4 per cent. In other words, every 20th car registered was a Kia EV3. No other car sold as well in January as the new entry-level EV from South Korea. This is according to official figures from the RAI Association, BOVAG and RDC.
Overall, the passenger car market in the Netherlands fell slightly in January: by 4.6 per cent compared to January 2024 to 32,804 new cars. A third (34%) of these were purely electric cars. The 11,157 new electric cars represent an impressive increase of 28% compared to January 2024. However, hybrids (14,934 registrations, 45.5% market share) were the largest drive group in the Netherlands at the start of the year, followed by BEVs and petrol cars (6,388 registrations, 19.5% market share). By comparison, diesel (270 registrations, 0.8% market share) and LPG (55 registrations, 0.2% market share) only play a minor role.
After the Kia EV3, the most registered models in January 2025 were the Picanto (855 registrations, 2.6% market share), also from Kia, as well as the Peugeot 208 (777 registrations, 2.4%), the Volvo EX30 (724 registrations, 2.2%) and the VW Polo (696 registrations, 2.1%).
Zooming in on the BEV market alone, the Kia EV3, with its 1,757 registrations, has a market share of 15.7 per cent. The Volvo EX30 (724 registrations, 6.5%), the VW ID.3 (523 registrations, 4.7%), and the Tesla duo Model Y (482 registrations, 4.3%) and Model 3 (432 registrations, 3.9%) follow far behind.
