From the city to the trail: Volvo presents EX30 Cross Country
The Volvo EX30 Cross Country is based on the top-of-the-range Ultra equipment line and features the familiar all-wheel drive with two electric motors and 315 kW of power. However, the carmaker promises to take the EX30 out of the city and to the trail as a new Cross Country variant. It also describes the latest addition to the portfolio of the all-electric entry-level SUV as an “adventurous package.” In Germany, the EX30 Cross Country is now available to order for 57,290 euros – 2,000 euros more than the current top-of-the-range Ultra version with all-wheel drive (from 55,290 euros). According to Volvo, deliveries are due to start later in the spring.
Special features of the off-road EX30 variant include a chassis with an increased ground clearance of 190 millimetres, wheels in a five-spoke cross-country design, and a matt black exterior look. Underride protection at the front and rear and widened wheel arches emphasise the robust look. According to Volvo, special 18-inch off-road tyres, load carriers, a roof basket and mud flaps are also available as accessories. These extras can also be ordered as a complete ‘Cross Country Experience’ package. According to the manufacturer, further offers will follow at a later date.
The colour palette of the newcomer includes four exterior paint finishes, each in combination with a black contrasting roof as standard. Inside, the model comes with many (partly familiar) storage compartments. The standard equipment also includes heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

The drive system remains the same as the top-of-the-range Ultra model. In addition to the system output of 315 kW, the electric vehicle has a battery with a net capacity of 64 kWh on board, which should provide a range of 427 kilometres. The all-wheel drive vehicle completes the sprint from zero to 100 kph in 3.6 seconds. The model can be charged with 153 kW DC and 22 kW AC.
The EX30 is no longer based on a Volvo platform but on the SEA from the parent company Geely. That means the EX30 uses the same drive technology as the Smart #1 or Zeekr X. The basic model with a 49 kWh LFP battery is available from 39,790 euros. As reported, the electric vehicle will be built at the Chinese plant in Zhangjiakou and will also roll off the production line at the Belgian plant in Ghent starting this year.
Meanwhile, Jim Rowan, CEO and President of Volvo Cars, emphasises the long tradition of cross-country variants in the Swedish brand’s portfolio: “We launched our first Cross Country car over 25 years ago, and this concept of durable and all-weather cars is core to the Volvo brand.” Winters in Sweden are harsh, but they make the best of them: “Even when it’s minus 20 Celsius outside. That’s why we want to deliver a fully rounded experience, not simply a car, to our EX30 Cross Country customers.”
