Porsche opens Charging Lounge in Hamburg

Another Porsche Charging Lounge has opened its doors right next to the ‘Porsche Approved Service Centre’ (PASZ) in Hamburg-Rahlstedt. It is now the sports car manufacturer's fifth location. However, it is the first to be based on a modular concept.

Porsche opened its first Charging Lounge in Germany in the summer of 2023 in Bingen am Rhein. This has since been followed by further locations in Estenfeld near Würzburg, Koblach in Austria and most recently in Ingolstadt in June 2024. The fifth Charging Lounge has now been put into operation next to the Porsche Approved Service Centre (PASZ) in Hamburg-Rahlstedt near the A1 motorway.

Four fast-charging stations, each with a charging capacity of up to 400 kW, are available around the clock exclusively for the car manufacturer’s models. While customers of the old Taycan and the new Macan would have been able to get by with 300 kW charging power (their vehicles can charge with a maximum of 270 kW), this no longer applies to the revised Taycan. As is well known, the facelift model can charge with up to 320 kW at its peak. “a current generation Taycan, for example, can be charged from ten to 80 per cent state of charge (SoC) in 18 minutes,” Porsche explains.

With full charging power, it should only be a short stop before the journey can be continued. But whether it’s a short or longer break, seating niches with recessed loudspeakers will ensure comfort even in the outdoor area. Inside, Porsche offers even more: “In addition to coffee, the new lounge also offers a well-stocked selection of soft drinks and snacks, a water dispenser and a modern sanitary room. There is also a high-performance WiFi connection available,” continues Porsche.

The Porsche Charging Lounges are displayed in the navigation system and the My Porsche app. A Porsche ID is required to gain access to the charging stations and the lounge area. This must be linked to the vehicle. If the licence plate is also linked to the Porsche ID, the barrier opens automatically using licence plate recognition. The licence plate number can be stored in the My Porsche app. Alternatively, the customer can use the Porsche Charging Card or a QR code from the My Porsche app to access the location and the lounge. Billing after a charging stop takes place centrally via the Porsche Charging Service. Payment can also be made ad hoc on request.

While the lounges here are all similar and Hamburg also bears the typical Porsche design language, the latest location nevertheless stands out: for the first time, the Zuffenhausen-based company has implemented a modular concept there: This is intended to allow the lounges to be adapted to the shape of the site in question and to be set up more quickly on site. The modular concept was made possible by a collaboration with Studio F.A. Porsche.

“The foundation is made of concrete. However, this material is largely avoided in the modules. They are mostly made of steel, stainless steel, wood and stone with a partner of Porsche based in Baden-Württemberg using electricity from renewable energies. A heat pump heats and air-conditions the Porsche Charging Lounge. It´s partly supplied by the photovoltaic system on the roof. The digital building management optimizes power consumption and, for example, automatically dims the lighting when there are no guests on site,” Porsche wrote.
