STCP launches tender for 30 electric buses in Portugual

The Portuguese transport company Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto (STCP) has launched a public tender for the procurement of 30 electric buses and 15 charging stations for the area of greater Porto. The company is aiming for commissioning in the second half of 2026.

According to its own information, STCP is the largest bus operator in the greater Porto area. The transport company’s fleet currently consists of 446 vehicles – 75 per cent of which are natural gas buses, 10 per cent diesel buses and 15 per cent electric buses. Now, 30 more electric vehicles are to follow.

For the procurement of the 30 electric buses, STCP has budgeted an investment of 12 million euros. The Portuguese public transport operators are also tendering for the appropriate infrastructure – 15 charging columns with 30 charging points with a projected budget of 900,000 euros.


STCP plans to introduce 30 new electric buses during the second quarter of 2026. By this time, 126 zero-emission vehicles will operate under the STCP banner. According to Cristina Pimentel, Chair of the Board of Directors, the STCP is striving to lead the transition to more sustainable and efficient public transport.
