The addition of electric delivery vans to the FedEx fleet in New Zealand is another step towards the complete electrification of its delivery fleets globally. In the Asia Pacific region alone, the company operates over 7600 vehicles. Globally, the company’s ground transportation fleet includes more than 200,000 vehicles, and over 100,000 of them are company-owned.

Besides electric vehicle adoption, FedEx is also taking an approach of using autonomous vehicles and robots, intermodal rail use, mobile command centres and optimised routes, as well as advocating clean technology. This month, FedEx also added its first electric vehicles to South Korean fleet.

Electric vehicles are nothing new to Auckland streets or waterways. Electric buses already traverse the city in public transport services, as well as other areas in the Antipodean country. Electric watercraft are also a feature of New Zealand public transport services.
