Bidfood increases to 50 electric trucks from Renault Trucks – and receives anniversary trucks

The Dutch food logistics company Bidfood is increasing its fleet of 25 electric Renault trucks by a further 25 electric units from the French brand by the end of the current quarter. As part of this follow-up order, Renault Trucks is celebrating its 2,000th electric truck rolling off the production line in Blainville-sur-Orne.

Bidfood Netherlands is a wholesale supplier that supplies food to customers in the hotel and catering industry. Bidfood operates from around 18 locations via an extensive distribution network with around 400 trucks. Since 2021, these have included the first Renault Trucks E-Tech electric trucks. This initially small group has now grown to 25 units and will reach the mark of 50 electric Renault trucks by the spring.

Dick Slootweg, Managing Director of Bidfood Netherlands, describes the drive transition as a concrete response to the current environmental challenges: “These tangible results show that electromobility is not a distant ambition but an operational and effective reality. It allows us to reduce our environmental footprint while meeting our customers’ growing expectations for sustainability.”

Manufacturer Renault Trucks has become an important partner in many aspects of the transition. “For three years, we have worked closely with Bidfood to integrate electric vehicles into their fleet and address the operational challenges of their logistics,” said Jérôme Berthelet, Managing Director of Renault Trucks Netherlands. “This collaboration has enabled us to develop customised solutions aligned with their constraints and decarbonisation ambitions.”

For Renault Trucks, the order is particularly noteworthy for another reason: the 2,000 electric trucks manufactured by Renault in Blainville-sur-Orne will be part of the Bidfood fleet. The production site was the first European plant for the series production of electric trucks, writes the company. The E-Tech D and E-Tech D Wide medium-duty electric truck models have been produced there since March 2020.
