Volvo Buses to deliver 73 electric buses in Sweden

The Swedish public transport company Svealandstrafiken has commissioned Volvo Buses to supply a total of 73 electric buses, 13 articulated buses for urban transport in Örebro and 60 vehicles for regional transport in the counties of Örebro and Västmanland.

With the new order, Svealandstrafiken is replacing two of three earlier orders from the financially troubled Dutch manufacturer Ebusco, which were cancelled by mutual agreement.

“We are pleased with how our contingency plans turned out and that we can secure our deliveries of sustainable vehicles for the future,” said Jonas Berg, Head of Purchasing and Sustainability at Svealandstrafiken.

The 13 articulated buses, which will operate in Örebro, are expected to be delivered by Volvo Buses in early 2026. Together with the 23 electric buses from Ebusco for the City Line, a total of 36 electric buses will then operate in Örebro.

“We look forward to continuing the electrification of our urban transport with more quiet, emission-free vehicles and contributing to a more sustainable urban environment in Örebro,” says Fredrik Eliasson, Head of Public Transport, Region Örebro County.

The 60 new regional buses will operate regional services in both Örebro County and Västmanland County. As in previous procurements, high demands have been placed on passenger comfort. In addition to being quieter thanks to electric power, the new regional buses will have reclining seats with armrests where possible, as well as luggage racks, clothes hooks and curtains.

Volvo Buses received its first order from the public transport operator back in 2020, which was for ten electric buses. Then in 2021, Hitachi ABB was hired to install charging infrastructure in Vasteras to power the bus fleet.
