Kia delays access to Supercharger network in the US
The carmaker does not say what exactly caused the delay, only that it is “working with the appropriate teams to confirm new availability/date.” Kia updated its press release from September, when it announced the starting date of 15 January 2025. It now says Kia will offer access to NACS chargers across the US “in the first quarter of 2025.”
According to PC Mag UK, that is already the second update to the press release. An earlier version stated that drivers would get access in “spring 2025” – either way, there is no specific timeline yet.
Kia announced in 2023 that it would offer their new and revised EV models with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) in North America. Specifically, it would integrate the port in models destined for the US market from late 2024 and for Canada starting in early 2025.
North American drivers who took delivery of a Kia EV6 or Kia EV9 after 4 September 2024 will get a free adapter to plug in at Tesla’s Superchargers. All other drivers can purchase the adapter once it becomes available. Again, that was supposed to be the case today, but will now happen sometime before the end of March.
Tesla’s NACS officially became a charging standard at the end of 2023. Other brands have already gained access to the Supercharger network. For instance, General Motors, Ford, Rivian, and Volvo customers (as well as Polestar drivers) have been able to use the network since late 2024. Mercedes was the first carmaker to offer access in 2025.
