LGES launches its own battery management solution

LG Energy Solution has announced the launch of its new system-on-chip (SoC)-based diagnostic solutions for battery management systems (BMS). The solution was developed together with Qualcomm.

The collaboration with US chip manufacturer Qualcomm has been in place since March 2024, when it was announced that LG Energy Solution’s BMS software would be based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis. This solution is now available.

In contrast to conventional BMSs, which, according to LGES, “operated on low-spec hardware, this is the industry’s first implementation of a BMS solution leveraging high-performance SoC computing power.” The two partners hope it will result in “a more sophisticated and differentiated BMS solution,” as the system with the Snapdragon high-performance chip “can collect more data than conventional BMS, allowing for faster and more accurate detection of anomalies such as thermal incidents.” Degradation diagnostics for battery life have also been refined, the press release states.

Battery management is offered under the brand ‘B.around,’ which LGES introduced for its BMS solutions in autumn. The B.around product range includes BMS software, BMS hardware, and solutions for software-defined vehicles (SDV) platforms.
