Tesla to start production of the Model Y Juniper in January
However, there has been no official confirmation from Tesla so far. In addition, reports from Chinese media only refer to the factory in China. However, the Model Y is also built in Grünheide near Berlin, and in the US factories in California and Texas. There is still no indication of a corresponding production changeover at these locations.
According to reports from China, Tesla will revise the Model Y in a similar way to the Model 3 Highland facelift. That includes improvements to the interior, exterior, battery capacity, motor performance and Autopilot, according to the report. A short video clip has also surfaced online, which is said to show a camouflaged Model Y Juniper. It is noticeable that the headlights are now split in two, as on the Tesla Cybertruck. The front end also looks more angular.
In addition to the updated Model Y, Tesla Giga Shanghai will start delivering a six-seater Model Y in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to the report. The Model Y is one of the most popular models in China. From January to November, 418,428 vehicles were delivered there, an increase of 5.57 per cent compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports that Song Gang, who oversaw the construction of Tesla’s Shanghai plant and most recently served as vice president of manufacturing, will leave Tesla this week. After working for General Motors and Ford, Song joined Tesla in 2018 and was the first employee at the electric car manufacturer’s first factory outside the United States. Fei Wenjin, recently promoted from director of quality to senior director, will take over Song’s duties for the time being, Bloomberg writes, citing people familiar with the matter. Song’s departure is not yet official.
