Indonesia: TransJakarta expands fleet with 200 new electric buses
Out of the 200 new electric buses, Perum Damri will operate 90 buses procured from Skywell and Zhongtong. PT Bianglala Metropolitan will also operate 90 electric buses ordered from Golden Dragon via the Indosian distributor SAG. PT Sinar Jaya will operate the 20 locally assembled buses from BYD. All the buses will start operation by the end of 2024 and serve the major routes across Greater Jakarta.
TransJakarta launched the 200 electric buses at the National Monument Square in Jakarta in the presence of dignitaries, including the Deputy Minister of State-owned Enterprises, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo. The launch is a joint effort of the TransJakarta consortium, including Perum Damri, PT Bianglala Metropolitan, and PT Sinar Jaya. With this partnership, Wirjoatmodjo remarked that the launch will “create a more environmentally friendly, modern, and sustainable transportation future.”
TransJakarta CEO Welfizon Yuza the additional electric vehicles will reduce carbon emissions by 420,000 tons every year. Moreover, procuring 200 new electric buses moves TransJakarta forward in its goal to operate 10,000 electric buses by 2030. This aligns with Jakarta’s dedication to leading national efforts to attain net zero emissions by 2050.
Yuza added, “Electric buses currently account for 20 per cent of our entire fleet. We are confident that we will achieve a fully electric bus fleet by 2030.”
