Dubai can now boast 750 charge points across the city
According to Gulf News, more than 34,970 electric vehicles were registered in the UAE by October 2024. The size of the DEWA charging network in Dubai has expanded to accommodate the uptake of electric vehicles. The Emirates aims to have 50 per cent of all vehicles be electric by 2050.
In mid-2023, DEWA issued plans to increase the number of charging stations in Dubai from 370 just a year ago to 1,000 by 2025, a target that is now very probable.
Electric vehicle drivers can locate charging stations through DEWA’s website, app, and other platforms. Tesla and UAEV have been granted Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses, which, according to Gulf News, are intended to accelerate the adoption of EVs and encourage private sector investment in EV charging infrastructure.
The UAEV is a charging infrastructure joint venture from the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Etihad Water and Electricity formed in May 2024. According to local media, the UAEV plans to deploy 100 chargers by the end of 2024 and over 1000 chargers by 2030 in alignment with the Emirates Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the objectives of the National Water and Energy Demand Management Programme.
