V-Green to build 100,000 charging stations in Indonesia
According to V-Green, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on St Nicholas’ Day provides for a total investment of up to 1.2 billion US dollars (1.14 billion euros) to build the planned 100,000 charging stations for electric vehicles within three years. However: “This MoU reflects the mutual intent of both parties to engage in detailed discussions to explore and develop cooperation in building charging stations in Indonesia,” the press release states. A final agreement has therefore not yet been reached – as is usual with declarations of intent.
However, the talks are probably already well advanced, as V-Green already has a rough rollout plan. They will “initially prioritise the development of VinFast charging stations in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali and the surrounding areas and plan to expand to other regions in Indonesia in later phases.”
No details are given on the type of charging stations, but a high number of AC charging points is likely. It is not confirmed whether DC charging points are planned at all – but it is not ruled out either.
The deal with the Prime Group, a conglomerate with branches in the Middle East and Africa, is primarily intended to secure financing for the expansion on a large scale. Until a final contract is signed, V-Green intends to “proactively research the market, identify strategic locations, and build and operate a network of charging stations to meet the growing demand of electric vehicle users in Indonesia”, as stated in the press release. The first charging stations are to be built from January.
Although V-Green is the brainchild of VinFast founder Pham Nhat Vuong, it operates formally independently of VinFast’s charging infrastructure department – the charging stations will be accessible to all brands. Nevertheless, the relationship with VinFast is emphasised time and again. The manufacturer is already supplying two models in Indonesia, the VF e34 and VF 5. VinFast has also started building its own assembly plant in Indonesia, specifically in Subang.
‘We are confident that this collaboration, driven by V-Green’s reputation and execution capabilities, will not only benefit both companies but also contribute significantly to the growth of the Southeast Asian electric vehicle market,’ said Tamer Wagih Salem, Chairman of Prime Group. “This partnership with V-GREEN will take us to explore more opportunities globally, starting with Indonesia then expanding to the Middle East, Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States. Together, we will create exceptional value for society and the global community.”
Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-Green , added: “Partnering with a strategic Middle Eastern partner opens up exciting new opportunities for V-GREEN to expand our global electric vehicle charging network. Together, we will create a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem, reducing environmental impact and enhancing quality of life.”
